Cosmetic Surgery Vacations

Cosmetic surgery vacations are by no means limited to Canada, India, the Philippines, Thailand, and South Africa. Individuals seeking cosmetic procedures or plastic surgery also travel to China, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and Malaysia.

Cosmetic surgery is one of the fastest-growing industries in China, according to official figures. It seems that the Chinese spend $2.4 billion a year, having somewhere around 1 million liposuctions, rhinoplasties, or other operations carried out on them. Nationwide, 10,000 private clinics provide medical services; most of their foreigners, however, elect liver or kidney transplants to cosmetic surgery.

Costa Rica also receives a significant number of health tourists. The national university carried out a survey that found that more than one in ten of all visitors to the country receive some sort of medical care. Many visitors choose cosmetic surgery, or dental work, before enjoying the attractions between Costa Rica’s 762 miles of coastline.

National airlines have both facilitated the boom in medical tourism, and benefited form it. Affordable prices for international tickets make medical travel a possibility for many. And the demand for overseas treatments keeps national airlines flying high.

Domestic airlines in several countries offer passengers discounts on diagnostic and therapeutic services in the cities where they land. The budget airlines that are offering increasing competition to national airlines offer packages that combine regional travel with opportunities to undergo surgical procedures such as breast augmentation or breast reduction.

Costs associated with plastic surgery:

Plastic surgery's costs can be accounted three different ways. First, there’s the cash price of the surgical intervention. Second, there’s the number of days that the patient must recuperate from the surgery, restricting their level of activity. Third, there’s the risk present in any form of surgery.

In general, patients find the cash price of cosmetic surgeries overseas to be only a fraction of similar procedures in the patient’s home country. Even factoring in the cost of airline tickets and hotel stay, cosmetic surgery at a reputable hospital overseas can cost much less that a similar procedure at home. So many find that plastic surgery's price tags are lower than they expect.

Of course, in addition to the cash price of the surgery, patients should assess other factors as well, in making their decision. But this difference in price means that patients who might not be able to afford aesthetic surgeries otherwise, to undergo breast augmentation or consider breast implants. Or this price difference allows patients to recuperate from their surgeries while enjoying a foreign vacation.
